WYCJ and PISFCC convene Multistakeholder discussion with governments and civil society in The Hague

On 20th June 2023, WYCJ and Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change (PISFCC) convened ‘Towards a progressive ICJ Advisory Opinion on climate change: A multi-stakeholder discussion on the Youth Climate Justice Handbook’ at the IDLO office in The Hague.

Bringing together representatives from across 20 governments and civil society for the first multi-stakeholder convening in the city where the International Court of Justice has its seat, the multi-stakeholder discussion highlighted the Youth Climate Justice Handbook. Placing young people at the center of this landmark international climate case, the multi-stakeholder discussion shared key procedural aspects as well as substantive arguments on climate justice and intergenerational equity.

Speakers included senior representatives from governments, international legal experts, civil society and youth organizations including H.E. Riaz Hamidullah Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Netherlands, Dr. Christopher Bartlett Climate Diplomacy Manager for Vanuatu, Vishal Prasad Campaign Director of PISFCC, Edgardo Sobenes and Maria Antonia Tigre co-authors of the Handbook, and Katrina Bullock general counsel for Greenpeace Australia/Pacific, and the discussion was moderated by Aditi Shetye of WYCJ.

The multistakeholder discussion brought together 20 embassies alongside interested civil society organizations who joined in person and online.
