Latin American Front participates in conference by La Ruta del Clima

On November 28, 2022, WYCJ’s Latin America Front had the opportunity to participate in a
conference organized by La Ruta del Clima, in cooperation with the Cultural Center of Spain, in San
Jose, Costa Rica. The event brought together Costa Rican climate change activists attending COP27
from different civil society organizations: Adrian Martinez from La Ruta del Clima, Ashly Torres from
the Costa Rican Youth and Climate Change Network, Mariana Chaverri from Latinas for Climate and
José Daniel Rodríguez from WYCJ.
During the event, activists shared their experiences in COP27. All
highlighted the need for climate negotiations to be truly accessible and participatory, especially for
youth, and recognized the urgency of including gender and human rights approaches in climate
negotiations. At the conference, we reiterated the importance of the ICJAO in ensuring human rights
are at the centre of climate policy and negotiations.

El pasado 28 de noviembre de 2022, el Frente para América Latina de WYCJ tuvo la oportunidad de
participar en una conferencia organizado por La Ruta del Clima, en cooperación con el Centro
Cultural de España, en San José de Costa Rica. El evento reunió a activistas en cambio climático de
Costa Rica que asistieron a la COP27 de distintas organizaciones de la sociedad civil: Adrián
Martinez de la Ruta del Clima, Ashly Torres, de la Red de Juventudes y Cambio Climático de Costa
Rica, Mariana Chaverri de Latinas for Climate y José Daniel Rodríguez de WYCJ. En el evento, se
compartieron las experiencias de participación latinoamericana en la COP27, se resaltó la necesidad
de que estos espacios de negociación sean accesibles y verdaderamente participativos,
especialmente para las juventudes, y se destacó la urgencia de incluir enfoques de género y
derechos humanos en las negociaciones climáticas. En la conferencia, destacamos la importancia
de la OCCIJ para garantizar que los derechos humanos estén en el centro de la políticas y
negociaciones sobre el clima.
